Premiere of "Manon": Video Interview with Director Vincent Boussard

"


As the premiere of the sensual ""Manon"" is getting closer, we talked to French director Vincent Boussard about the challenges raised by the legendary J. Massenet's opera, the concept of the production and inspiring working process with the talented team of singers. 

After his debut as stage director at the Studio Theatre of the Comédie-Française in 1999, Vincent Boussard decided to devote himself to opera staging. His first opera staging was Dido & Aeneas with Les Arts Florissants in Paris and New York. Meanwhile he has collaborated with institutions such as the Haendel Festival in Halle (Floridante), the Staatsoper Berlin (Agrippina, Candide, Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny), the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Graz Opera and the San Francisco Opera (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), the Frankfurt Opera (Adriana Lecouvreur, Ezio by Gluck), the Staatsoper Hamburg (Madama Butterfly), the Theater an der Wien (Radamisto), the Innsbruck Festival and the Baden-Baden Festival (Don Giovanni), the St. Gallen Opera (Salomé), the Royal Opera House Stockholm (Carmen), the Théâtre royal de la Monnaie (Il re pastore, Eliogabalo, Frühlingserwachen), the Théâtre national du Capitole (La Favorite), the Opéra national du Rhin (Louise, Les Pêcheurs de Perles), the Marseille Opera (Maria Golovin, Hamlet), the Festival international d’Aix-en-Provence (Le Nozze di Figaro, La finta giardiniera). His latest work includes Un ballo in maschera in Toulouse and Nürnberg, L'amico Fritz in Strasbourg and Mulhouse, La Fanciulla del West in Hamburg as well as La Traviata at the New National Theater in Tokyo.
