“Little onion Cipollino was the son of onion Cipollone. He had seven brothers: Cipoletto, Cipolotto, Chipolocho, Cipolucho and so on; all of the names were very suitable for this respectable family of onions” – this is how Gianni Rodari’s book The Adventures of Cipollino begins. The story brought worldwide fame to this winner of Hans Christian Andersen’s medal, and composer Karen Khachaturian set Cipollino to music. The brave Cipollino backed up by his little friends – the jolly Radish-Girl, the wise Cherry-Boy, and the beautiful Magnolia – defeats the evil Prince Citron and the cunning Signor Tomato. Together they experience many adventures, and the story ends very happily!
