Concert

Baroko muzikos koncertas

LNOBT Main Stage
Baroko muzikos koncertas

It's more than a concert! Together with world-famous baroque music performers, the ensemble consisting of artists of LNOBT’s orchestra "Cappella Concertante Vilnense" will make its debut on the main stage of the theatre. That moment shall begin the Lithuanian tradition of performing baroque music, which is common in opera houses all over the world.

“The baroque ensemble project was conceived four years ago, when I became the Artistic Director of Opera at the LNOBT. In the opera repertoire of every self-respecting European theatre, one will find music from the Baroque era! After all, baroque is the abundant and impressive treasure trove of music written by Claudio Monteverdi, Jean Baptiste Lully, Antonio Vivaldi, François Couperin, Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Händel and other composers of the 17th-18th centuries. Having such an ensemble in the theatre is a great advantage, as it provides an opportunity to plan baroque opera productions on LNOBT’s stage in the future. Thus, this concert is the beginning of a big, significant project for the future of the theatre”, - says Sesto Quatrini.

LNOBT’s artistic director of opera invited a soloist with an extremely rare voice, male soprano Bruno de Sá, to this concert. Brilliant young male soprano Bruno de Sá already has a string of glowing reviews to his name, his extraordinary voice and rare musicianship astonishing professionals, critics and public alike. While still a student in his native Brazil, he made his first professional appearance in 2013 as Der Knabe in Weill’s “Der Jasager” (Cultural Centre SESC Belenzinho, São Paulo), and since then has been singing in many theatres of Europe, America and native Brazil. In 2016 he became the first-prize winner at the 14th Maria Callas Competition in São Paulo, and a year later received Silver Prize at the 2nd Manhattan International Music Competition. In June 2018 Bruno de Sá won the 19th Concorso Spiros Argiris in Sarzana, Italy. He won the OPER! Award 2020 in the category Best Newcomer of the Year. Bruno de Sá is a Warner Classics exclusive artist.

Violinist Dimitris Karakantas was invited as concertmaster of the program. He graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna as a student of Günter Pichler and Joanna Madroszkiewicz and continued his studies on the baroque violin at the Academy of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar and at the Mozarteum of Salzburg with Midori Seiler. To describe the performances and playing style of D. Karakantas in one word, one would have to use “versatility”. Striving to build the longest possible musical bridges in his repertoire, he connects the origins of classical music with modernity. The choice of period instruments crossing over to the contemporary ones, the swift emulsification of modern and popular music with the earliest baroque compositions are all embodied in dynamic, energetic interpretations. After being the first prize winner of numerous national and international competitions, D. Karakantas launched his career regularly performing worldwide as a soloist with various baroque and modern orchestras in some of the most important international concert halls.

A sumptuous, spectacular program of baroque music and excellent performers together with "Cappella Concertante Vilnense" promise a wonderful evening.
